MANCHESTER, N.H. - Visiting Bates College scored six of
the game's final seven goals en route to a 15-13 women's lacrosse
victory over Southern New Hampshire University at Larkin Field
Tuesday evening. The Bobcats improved to 2-1 on the season,
while the Penmen see their record evened at 1-1.
Briana Gross led Bates with five
goals, while Caroline Thomas finished with three goals and an
assist. Morgan Maciewicz added two goals and two assists for
the Bobcats, while Molly Dilworth and Jenna Dennis had two goals
apiece, with Dilworth adding an assist. Molly Radis had the
other Bates score.
Carole Lee (Derry, NH)
led Southern New Hampshire with four goals and two assists.
Maura
Murphy (Candia, NH) added three goals and two assists,
while Jennifer
Parro (Ipswich, MA) handed out three assists, becoming
the first player in SNHU program history to notch 100
assists. Libby Parent
(Hinesburg, VT) had a goal and three assists, while Emily Mongeau
(Westborough, MA) and Sherry Darrell (Bow,
NH) each scored twice. Laura Rotolo (Waltham,
MA) also had a goal for the Penmen.
Southern New Hampshire held a 12-9
lead 8:09 into the second half following a goal by Lee, but the
Bobcats would score the next six goals, and a free position tally
by Briana Gross with 4:46 remaining gave Bates a 15-12 lead.
The Penmen would cut the lead to 15-13 with just under two minutes
left on a goal by Murphy, but would get no closer.
The Penmen, who trailed 8-6 at
halftime, scored six of the first seven goals in the second
half. SNHU scored four times in the first 3:39 of the second
half, and a goal by Murphy with 26:21 to play gave her team a 10-8
lead.
The hosts got on the board 1:13 in
on a Mongeau tally, but Bates would score the game's next six goals
to take a 6-1 lead11:10 into the game on Gross' first goal.
The Penmen would close within one, 7-6, with 1:29 before halftime
on a Lee goal, but Dilworth would score 22 seconds later for the
Bobcats to make it 8-6 at the break.
Bates goalie Mara Krueger made nine
saves in a complete-game effort to earn the win, while SNHU
netminder Hannah
Moriarty (Chelmsford, MA) made 12 stops. The
Penmen held a 33-31 shot advantage.
