BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The Southern New Hampshire University
baseball team took both ends of a doubleheader with C.W. Post by
scored of 6-1 and 4-3 Sunday afternoon. The Penmen improve to
3-8 overall with the wins, while the Pioneers slip to 2-13 on the
season.
In the first game, the Penmen
jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, then added
another run in the fourth before scoring twice in the fourth and
the sixth. C.W. Post scored its lone run in the bottom of the
sixth. Joseph
Gargan (Hudson, NH) was 2-4 at the plate in the
opener, while Koby
Thibault (Salisbury, MA) and Bob Wronski
(Arlington, MA) were each 2-3, with Thibault scoring a pair of runs
and Wronski crossing the plate once.
Steve Golbranson
(Abington, MA) went the distance on the mound for Southern New
Hampshire. The junior lefthander worked seven innings and
struck out five while allowing just four hits and walking two.
In the nightcap, the Penmen
overcame a 3-2 deficit by scoring twice in the top of the
sixth. Scott
Strong (Naperville, IL) led off the inning with a
single, and was bunted over by Jeff Giannino
(Beverly, MA). Thibault would double to plate Strong, and
after Wronski singled through the left side, Pelletier grounded to
short, bringing home Thibault with the game-winning run.
C.W. Post scored twice in the first
before the Penmen tied it with two runs in the top of the
second. The Pioneers took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the
fourth.
Thibault was 2-3 in the nightcap as
well. Bryant Gauthier
(Lynn, MA) earned the win in relief for Southern New Hampshire,
working 2.2 innings. After walking his first batter in the
fifth he got C.W. Post to ground into a double play, then
registered a pair of 1-2-3 innings. A.J. Dusablon
(Burlington, VT) started for the Penmen, and worked 4.1 innings,
allowing six hits while fanning two.
Southern New Hampshire is scheduled
to open Northeast-10 play Saturday when it travels to American
International College for a noon doubleheader.
