BOX SCORE
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Bob Wronski's (Arlington, MA) walkoff
single in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted Southern
New Hampshire University to a 3-2, 11-inning Northeast-10 baseball
victory over Franklin Pierce University Thursday afternoon at
Penmen Field. The Penmen, who completed a season sweep of the
Ravens, have won five of their last six and are 7-9 overall and 4-1
in the NE-10. FPU is now 7-11 and 0-2 in the league.
The first two SNHU batters in the
11th, Scott Strong (Naperville, IL) and
Jeff Giannino (Beverly, MA) would walk.
Franklin Pierce would lift pitcher Steve Cadoret in favor of Rob
Nicholas, and Nicholas would get the next batter, Koby
Thibault (Salisbury, MA), to strike out. Wronski
then would single to center to bring in the winning run in Strong.
SNHU would get on the board first
in the bottom of the third. Eric Pelletier
(Beverly, MA) would hit a one-out double to left-center, then score
when the next batter, Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford,
MA), singled. The Penmen would take a 2-0 lead in the sixth
when Strong led off the inning with a single and scored on a double
to left-center by Thibault.
Franklin Pierce would tie the game
by scoring single runs in the seventh and eighth. Mike Dowd
would get the Ravens on the board in the seventh when he led off
with a home run to left. In the eighth, Cliff Hicks led off
the inning with a walk, and later scored on a bases-loaded, one-out
single by Colin Halloran. SNHU hurler Brad
Monroe (Hampton Falls, NH) would work out of the jam by
getting Jose Macias swinging then getting Ted Lerud to fly out to
right.
Monroe earned the win for the
Penmen, working 3.2 innings of scoreless relief while allowing just
two hits and striking out three. Penmen starter Ryan
Quinn (Lebanon, CT) went 6.2 innings and allowed one run
while striking out seven, including his 100th career
strikeout. Cadoret took the loss in 1.2 innings of relief for
the Ravens.
Pelletier was 3-4 at the plate to
lead Southern New Hampshire, while Macias had a pair of hits for
the Ravens. The Penmen held an 8-6 hit advantage on the
afternoon.
SNHU returns to action Saturday
when it is scheduled to play a noon twinbill at Merrimack College.
