MANCHESTER, N.H. - Four players finished with three goals
apiece to lead Southern New Hampshire University to an 18-5 women's
lacrosse victory over Philadelphia University Saturday afternoon at
Larkin Field. The game marked the season opener for both
schools.
Senior Jennifer Parro
(Ipswich, MA) led the Penmen with three goals and four assists,
while classmate Libby
Parent (Hinesburg, VT) added three goals and two
assists. Maura Murphy (Candia,
NH) had three goals and an assist while Carole Lee (Derry, NH)
had three goals as well. Julie Kraus
(Derry, NH) recorded a goal and four assists, while Laura Rotolo
(Waltham, MA) and Emily Mongeau
(Westborough, MA) each had two goals. Lucretia Joy
(Portland, ME) had the other SNHU tally. Kaley Waterman
(Berwick, ME) collected eight ground balls and caused six
turnovers.
Kathleen Maurer led the Rams with
two goals and an assist, while Caribeth Shappell had a goal and two
assists. Lauren Woodie and Taylor Peltzer added single goals
for Philadelphia.
Philadelphia held a 3-2 lead 11:56
into the game following Maurer's second goal, but the Penmen would
score four unanswered goals to take a 6-3 lead into halftime
following Parro's tally with 6:45 left in the half. Southern
New Hampshire would score seven more times in the first 11:51 of
the second half to take a 13-3 lead on a goal by Parent with 18:09
to play.
Katie Clark (Norwich,
CT) played the first 54:04 in goal for Southern New Hampshire and
made four saves before giving way to Hannah Moriarty
(Chelmsford, MA), who played the final 5:56 and was not forced to
make a save. Katherine Sullivan turned aside 12 shots for
Philadelphia, which was outshot 42-13.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Tuesday when it hosts Bates College in a 5:00 game at Larkin
Field.
NOTES: Southern
New Hampshire has now won eight in a row at home dating back to
last season...the Rams are the preseason favorite in the Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) preseason poll, while the
Penmen were picked third in the Northeast-10 preseason poll...Parro
is just one assist shy of 100 for her career.
