Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Merrimack 19-14

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Maura Murphy (Candia, NH) totaled five goals and two assists to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 19-14 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory over Merrimack College at Larkin Field Wednesday afternoon.  The Penmen improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the NE-10, while the Warriors are now 1-4 and 1-2 in the league.

Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT) recorded four goals and an assist for the Penmen, who also got four goals from Emily Mongeau (Westborough, MA).  Lucretia Joy (Portland, ME) tallied two goals and two assists for SNHU, while Jennifer Parro (Ipswich, MA) had a goal and three assists.  Laura Rotolo (Waltham, MA) had a goal and an assist while Carole Lee (Derry, NH) and Sara Halbich (Salem, NH) added single tallies.

Lauren Leddy finished with five goals to pace the Warriors, while Mia Basile had four goals.

Southern New Hampshire jumped out to an 8-0 lead just 9:32 into the contest following a free position goal by Joy.  The Warriors used three straight goals to close within four, 11-7, with 39 seconds left in the first half following a Maddie Basile tally, but the Penmen would take a 12-7 lead into halftime when Mongeau scored with 14 seconds on the clock.

The Warriors would cut the lead down to two, 13-11, with 17:09 left following a free position shot by Leddy.  The Penmen would respond with four unanswered goals and a goal by Parent with 8:23 left made it 17-11.  The two teams would then trade goals the rest of the way.

Katie Clark (Norwich, CT) went the distance in goal for Southern New Hampshire and made 13 saves as Merrimack outshot the Penmen 38-29.  Jamie-Lee Whiteway, the sister of SNHU sophomore defender Brittany Whiteway (Billerica, MA), had six saves between the pipes for Merrimack.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Southern Connecticut State University for a 1:00 contest.
