MANCHESTER, N.H. - Visiting Assumption College banged out
17 hits en route to a 7-2 Northeast-10 baseball victory over
Southern New Hampshire University Monday afternoon. The
Greyhounds improved to 17-11-1 overall and 10-4-1 in the NE-10 with
the win, while the Penmen are now 11-17-1 and 8-9-1 in the league.
Assumption jumped on the board with
two runs in the second and two more in the third. In the
second, the Greyhounds got back-to-back singles by Shawn Frigon and
Mike Baillargeon that plated Josh Dufresne and Steve
Scannell. In the third, Mike Foley led off with an infield
single and scored on a double to the gap by Mike DiReda.
DiReda would later score on a single by Scannell.
The Penmen would get a run back in
the bottom of the fifth. Chris O'Neil
(Chelmsford, MA) led off with a single through the right side and
after advancing to second on a groundout, stole third. O'Neil
would come home on a single off the bat of Koby Thibault
(Salisbury, MA).
The Greyhounds made it a 5-1 game
in the seventh when Baillargeon led off with a single and
eventually scored on a single by Tim Scafidi. Assumption
would threaten again in the eighth, loading the bases with one out,
but Adam
Flynn (Derby Line, VT) would strike out Baillargeon,
and Justin
Mansfield (Arlington, MA) would get Derek Migrants to
fly out to center field.
SNHU would add a run in the bottom
of the eighth when a single by Tim Rines (Merrimack,
NH) scored Eric
Pelletier (Beverly, MA). Assumption scored twice
in the top of the ninth on back-to-back RBI singles by Dufresne and
Scannell.
Scannell led Assumption with four
hits while Frigon totaled three hits for the Greyhounds.
Pelletier had two of SNHU's eight hits on the afternoon.
Michael Colebrook allowed four hits and a run over five innings of
work to pick up the win on the hill for Assumption. SNHU
starter Ryan
Quinn (Lebanon, CT) was touched for 11 hits and four
runs in three-plus innings of work and took the loss while
recording a pair of strikeouts.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday night when it travels to UMass Lowell for a 7:00
game.
