MANCHESTER, N.H. - Richard Pecoraro (Hampton Bays, NY)
went 4-for-4 at the plate and Ryan Quinn (Lebanon,
CT) struck out eight in eight innings on the hill to lead Southern
New Hampshire University to a 4-3 Northeast-10 baseball victory
over Stonehill College at Penmen Field Thursday afternoon.
The Penmen improved to 13-21-1 overall and 10-13-1 in the NE-10
with the win, while the Skyhawks are now 20-16 and 10-10 in the
league.
SNHU jumped on the board with three
runs in the first inning. Scott Strong
(Naperville, IL) led off the game with a single, then scored when
the next batter, Eric Pelletier (Beverly, MA)
tripled down the right field line. Pelletier would make it
2-0 when he scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Tim
Rines (Merrimack, NH). Chris O'Neil
(Chelmsford, MA) would single with two away to extend his hit
streak to 12 games, and would score on a Pecoraro single.
Jeff Giannino (Beverly, MA), who followed O'Neil's
single by reaching on a hit by pitch, was gunned down at the plate
trying to score on the hit.
Stonehill would cut the lead to 3-2
in the fourth on a two-run home run to right by Angelo Bruno, but
the Penmen would grab another run in the bottom of the sixth.
Giannino reached on a single and scored when Curtis
Burke (Bristol, RI) reached on a bases-loaded fielders'
choice. Stonehill cut the lead to one again in the eighth
when Bruno reached on a one-out double to the gap in right-center
and scored on a single by Shane Franz.
Quinn scattered eight hits for the
Penmen in eight innings of work to earn his fourth win of the
season. Brad Monroe (Hampton Falls, NH)
worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save. Eric Haughn took the
loss for Stonehill, surrendering nine hits in five-plus innings and
getting charged with all four Penmen runs.
O'Neil and Burke also finished with
two hits apiece for SNHU as the Penmen outhit the Skyhawks
12-8. Bruno and Ryan Healey each had two hits for Stonehill.
SNHU and Stonehill meet again
