Brendon Malkowski fired a complete-game four-hitter to lead The
College of Saint Rose to a 2-0 win over Southern New Hampshire
University in Northeast-10 baseball Thursday afternoon. The Golden
Knights improved to 20-24 and 13-14 in the league, while the Penmen
are now 14-23-1 overall and 10-16-1 in the NE-10.
Saint Rose got on the board with a
single run in the fifth when Derek Marshall reached on a one-out
double and scored on a single by Jesse Burba. The Golden
Knights plated their other run in the seventh when Michael Carbone
worked a leadoff walk and came home on a single by Grant Smith.
Southern New Hampshire would get
the tying run on base with two outs in the ninth when Tim
Rines (Merrimack, NH) and Bobby Wronski
(Arlington, MA) hit back-to-back singles, but Malkowski would end
the threat by getting Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford,
MA) to pop out to end the game.
Malkowski fanned 11 in his complete
game effort, while Marshall led the Golden Knights with three hits
as Saint Rose outhit SNHU 7-4. Rines led the Penmen with a
pair of hits, while O'Neil saw his 14-game hit streak come to an
end with an 0-4 day at the plate. Bryant
Gauthier (Lynn, MA) went 5.1 innings as the SNHU starter
and surrendered six hits while fanning eight. Derek
Anderson (Dracut, MA) allowed one hit and fanned four in
2.2 innings of relief.
Southern New Hampshire plays its
final home games of the season Saturday when it hosts Southern
Connecticut State University for a noon doubleheader.
