BOX SCORE
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Ryan Quinn (Lebanon, CT)
matched his career high with 14 strikeouts in a complete-game
victory to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 4-2
Northeast-10 baseball victory over Pace University Tuesday
afternoon at Penmen Field. The Penmen, who snapped a
five-game slide with the win, improve to 9-15 and 6-7 in the NE-10,
while the Setters are now 11-18-1 and 6-8 in the league.
Southern New Hampshire scored all
four of its runs in the sixth to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2
lead. Tim
Rines (Merrimack, NH) led off the inning with a walk,
then the next batter, Bobby Wronski
(Arlington, MA) would belt a home run to center, his fourth home
run in the last four games. The next two batters, Skyler Byrd
(Milford, NH) and Chris O'Neil
(Chelmsford, MA) reached on back-to-back singles.
Byrd and O'Neil would each move
over on a sacrifice bunt by Jeff Giannino
(Beverly, MA), then the Penmen took advantage of a pair of Pace
defensive miscues. The next batter, Richard Pecoraro
(Hampton Bays, NY) struck out, but the ball got by Pace catcher
Steven Sterlacci, allowing Pecoraro to reach and Byrd to
score. O'Neil would later score on a two-out wild pitch by
Setter reliever Steven D'Angelo.
Pace scored both of its runs in the
top of the sixth. Andre Liscinsky led off the inning with a
single, and after being bunted over, scored on a single by Kenny
Wright. Wright would then score from first when the next
batter, Joe Cotone, doubled to center field.
Quinn recorded his fourth complete
game of the season, and matched his strikeout high set earlier in
the season in a win over American International. He allowed
eight hits while walking two. Six different players had the
six Penmen hits on the afternoon. Chris Carnastro took the
loss for Pace, working 5.1 innings and allowing all six hits while
fanning two.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday when it hosts Merrimack College in a 3:30 game at
Penmen Field.
