Women's Lacrosse Downs Saint Anselm 14-9

MANCHESTER, N.H.-Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT) totaled five goals and two assists to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 14-9 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse win Thursday at Grappone Stadium.  The win improves the Penmen, winners of four straight, to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in league contests, while the Hawks are 4-7 and 3-4 in the league.

Southern New Hampshire started off the game scoring three unanswered goals for the 3-0 lead. Parent, Lucretia Joy (Portland, ME) and Carole Lee (Derry, NH) each netted a goal for the Penmen before the 24:34 mark.

The Hawks would storm right back scoring the next four goals to take a 4-3 lead, but the Penmen scored twice more before the half, including Parent's goal with 17 seconds left, to take a 5-4 lead into the break.

Saint Anselm would score four of the first five goals of the second half to take an 8-6 lead with 19:34 to go on a goal by Courtney Ford.

After that it was all Penmen as they rattled off four straight goals in a span of 3:01, and a goal by Maura Murphy (Candia, NH) with 14:59 left gave SNHU a 10-8 lead.  Michaela Rocha would score for the Hawks with 13:18 left to pull within 10-9, but the Penmen scored the final four goals of the contest.

Parent led the Southern New Hampshire with a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists, while Murphy and Emily Mongeau (Westborough, MA) each scored twice.  Jennifer Parro (Ipswich, MA) totaled a goal and four assists while  Joy and Sherry Darrell (Bow, NH) each had a goal and an assist. Netminder Katie Clark (Norwich, CT) made six saves and allowed only nine goals to pick up her fifth win of the season.

Rocha led Saint Anselm with five goals and an assist while Meghan Smith compiled two goals and an assist in the loss. Sophomore goaltender Katherine O'Hara  made eight saves and allowed 14 goals in the losing effort.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday, April 11th, as it hosts nationally-ranked New Haven for a 1 p.m. NE-10 contest.
