PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Host Pace University rallied from a
4-0 deficit with five runs over the final two innings to post a 5-4
Northeast-10 baseball victory over Southern New Hampshire
University Thursday afternoon at Finnerty Field. The Setters
improve to 13-18-1 overall and 7-8 in the NE-10, while the Penmen
are now 10-16-1 and 7-8-1 in the league.
Pace, which trailed 4-0 after the
Penmen tacked on a run in the top of the eighth, scored four times
in the bottom of the frame to know the game 4-4. The Setters
registered four hits in the inning, including an RBI single by
Andre Liscinsky and a RBI double from Vinny Dammann. Pace
also scored a pair of runs when Joe Cotone reached on an
error. The hosts would then earn the walkoff win in the
bottom of the ninth when Liscinsky rapped a two-out single to score
Kyle Turnier, who was hit by a pitch to start the inning.
Southern New Hampshire got on the
board in the first. Curtis Burke (Bristol,
RI) worked a leadoff walk and would score on a sacrifice fly by
Bobby
Wronski (Arlington, MA). The Penmen would score
twice in the third when Jeff Giannino
(Beverly, MA) reached on an error, allowing Wronski and Skyler Byrd
(Milford, NH) to score. SNHU made it a 4-0 game in the eighth
when a double to center by Chris O'Neil
(Chelmsford, MA) scored Tim Rines (Merrimack,
NH), who reached when he was hit by a pitch.
Byrd had two of SNHU's four hits in
the game. Bryant Gauthier
(Lynn, MA) took the loss for the Penmen, working 1.1 innings and
surrendering three hits. Penmen starter Derek Anderson
(Dracut, MA) worked 7.1 innings and scattered six hits and allowed
a pair of runs while striking out three.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Friday when it hosts American International College in a
3:30 game. That game was originally scheduled to be played
Saturday but was moved up due to the forecast of inclement weather
that day.
