NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut State University
posted a 3-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in
Northeast-10 baseball action at The Ballpark at SCSU Sunday
afternoon. The Owls, who will open play in the NE-10
Tournament later this week, improve to 25-19 and 20-10 in the
league, while the Penmen see their season come to a close at
14-26-1 overall and 11-18-1 in the league.
SNHU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in
the top of the first. Scott Strong
(Naperville, IL) led off the game with a double and scored when the
next batter, Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford, MA) singled
to center field. The Owls would plate two runs in the bottom
of the second on a two-run single by A.J. Rouleau. Southern
Connecticut would tack on an another run in the fourth when Eric
Schlitter led off the inning with a single and scored on a
groundout by Kyle Rosadino.
Chris Zbin worked seven innings to
get the win for SCSU, allowing three hits and striking out
six. Penmen starter Ryan Quinn (Lebanon, CT)
fanned nine in his 7.2 innings of work for the Penmen, in the
process registering 100 strikeouts for the season, a single-season
school record. His 168 career strikeouts place him second in
program history. O'Neil, who hit safely in 17 of SNHU's last
18 games of the season, had a pair of hits, while Garrett
Jewell (Alexandria, NH) had the other SNHU base hit.
