Women's Tennis Bows Out of NCAA Tournament

WALTHAM, Mass. - Top-seeded Concordia (N.Y.) College advanced to the round of 16 in the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 win over No. 5 seed Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon in the tournament's second round at the Bentley University tennis courts.

Concordia improves to 16-2 overall, while the Penmen, who were making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, end their season 12-5.  SNHU upended fourth-seeded Bentley 5-4 on Friday in the first round.

In doubles, Somadi Druker and Celise Sesanker beat Amber Chandronnait and Catalina Echeverry in the top-flight 8-3. The other two matches were decided by the same 8-1 score. In second doubles, Cristina Oliveria and Maria Ortiz topped Lauren Nigrelli and Alison Waring, and in third doubles, it was Adeline Brennan and Tita Kiss over Courtney Blais and Meghan Welch.

Sesanker and Ortiz won their singles matches in the number three and five slots respectively to give Concordia the win. Sesanker beat Nigrelli 6-0, 6-1, and Ortiz defeated Blais 6-1, 6-0.

The Clippers will now travel down to Altamonte Springs, Fla., for the round of 16 which begins on May 13.
