PHILADELPHIA - The Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team fared well on day one of the Wilson/ITA East Regional hosted by Chestnut Hill College and Philadelphia University on Friday.  The Penmen had two singles players, Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) and Lena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) advance to the round of 16 in the A bracket.  In addition, Mukdaprakorn and Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) reached the quarterfinal round of the A doubles draw.

Chandronnait, the defending champion of the event and the top seed, earned a first-round bye before topping Taylor Barber of Queens (N.Y.) College 6-0, 6-2 in the second round.  She is slated to face ninth-seeded Tamiris Diversi of Dowling Saturday morning.  Mukdaprakorn, a freshman, also received a first-round bye, then defeated Jeana Frey of Molloy College 6-3, 6-0.  She will face eighth-seeded Maria Mendes of Queens on Saturday.  Mendes was defeated by Chandronnait in the singles final last year.

Echeverry fell in her first match in the bracket, falling to the tournament's second seed 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, Echeverry and Mukdaprakorn opened with an 8-5 win over Morganne Downing and Katie Francazio of Division I Bryant.  They then upended Barber and Daniela Celi of Queens 8-3, and are slated to face the second-seeded doubles team from Concordia on Saturday.  Echeverry and Kara Pease (Falmouth, Mass.) fell in their first match to another duo from Concordia 8-6.

In the B singles bracket, the Penmen had three players advance to the second round, as Alison Waring (Westborough, Mass.) defeated Laura Beaver of Philadelphia when she retired due to injury.  Jennifer Zastrow (Rutland, Mass.) was a 8-3 winner over Elizabeth Rhode of Le Moyne, while Samantha Jean (Bedford, N.H.) was a 8-1 victor over Philadelphia's Sarah Harris.  Meaghan Houghton (Manchester, N.H.) fell in the first round 8-4.
