PHILADELPHIA -
Junior Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) of the
Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team advanced to
the semifinals of the Wilson/ITA Regional co-hosted by Philadelphia
University and Chestnut Hill College on Saturday. Freshman
Lena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) advanced to
the quarterfinals before being eliminated.
Chandronnait downed Tamiris Diversi
of Dowling 6-3, 6-2 before getting past sixth-seeded Somadi Druker
of Queens 6-1, 6-2. She will face fourth-seeded Christina
Oliveira in Sunday's semifinal round, and the winner of that match
will face the winner of Sunday's other semi between No. 2 seed Ola
Roberts of Concordia and fifth-seed Laura Mocodeanu of
Queens. Chandronnait is the defending champion of the event.
Mukdaprakorn advanced to the
quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Maria Mendes of Queens, the
tourney's eighth seed, before falling to Roberts 6-2, 7-5.
In doubles play, Mukdaprakorn and
Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) dropped their
quarterfinal match to Roberts and Oliveria 8-2.
In the B singles draw,
Samantha Jean (Bedford, N.H.) advanced to the
quarterfinals where she fell 8-2. She advanced with wins over
Philadelphia's Stephanie Reinke (8-4) and Caitlyn Lawrence of
Georgian Court (8-0). Alison Waring
(Westboro, Mass.) and Jennifer Zastrow (Rutland,
Mass.) dropped second round matches.
