WEST HAVEN, Conn.
- Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) scored
twice to lead No. 7 Southern New Hampshire University to a 4-0 win
over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 men's soccer
Sunday afternoon. The Penmen, who are unbeaten over their
last eight games (7-0-1), improve to 8-1-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the
NE-10, while the Chargers are 1-7 and 0-7 in the league.
The win also marks the seventh
straight shutout for the Penmen, one shy of the school record of
eight established in the 2000 season. Southern New Hampshire
has not allowed a goal in its last 718:15 of action.
Schippers would give the Penmen a
quick 2-0 lead with two goals in the game's first 9:33. He
got SNHU on the board 2:28 in when he ran down a through ball from
Marc Goulet (Plainville, Conn.) and knocked it
home. His second goal, an unassisted tally in the
10th minute, came when Schippers got past the defense
and was in alone on New Haven keeper Jonathan Creem.
Danny Hernandez
(Salem, N.H.) gave the Penmen a 3-0 lead 3:26 before halftime, then
Patrick Hamilton (Kingston, Jamaica) closed out
the SNHU scoring in the 53rd minute when he scored off a
feed from Goulet.
Sean Lambert
(Rehoboth, Mass.) played the first half in goal for Southern New
Hampshire and made one save before giving way to Joey
Kapinos (Ludlow, Mass.), who was not forced to make a save
the rest of the way. Lambert ran his personal shutout streak
to 650:26. Creem made a pair of saves for UNH in the game's
first 62:56, before J.J. Comeau came in in relief, and was not
forced to make a save.
Southern New Hampshire generated a
13-5 shot advantage and a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
SNHU returns to action Wednesday
night when it hosts Merrimack in a 7:00 contest at Larkin Field.
