No. 6 Men's Soccer Tops Merrimack 3-1

BOX SCORE

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Sixth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University got goals from three different players as it defeated Merrimack College 3-1 in Northeast-10 men's soccer Wednesday night.  The Penmen extended their unbeaten streak to nine games (8-0-1) and are now 9-1-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the Northeast-10.  The Warriors now sit 4-4-1 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Southern New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead 1:08 before intermission.  On a restart, Michael Adam (Ludlow, Mass.) delivered a long free kick into the box which was headed home by Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.)  The Penmen made it 2-0 14 minutes into the second half when Christian Rodriguez (Manchester, N.H.) delivered a left-to-right crossing pass into the box which Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) headed over the arms of Merrimack keeper Kevin Joyce.  SNHU took a 3-0 lead in the 65th minute when Ethan Lapierre (Manchester, N.H.) delivered a line drive from 15 yards out that snuck inside the near left post.

SNHU's shutout bid was stopped at the 69:20 mark when Olof Lindhe scored after he took a pass from Nelson Santos and got past the Penmen defense.

SNHU, which had posted seven straight shutouts coming into the game, allowed its first goal since September 3, a span of 787:35 of game action.  The Penmen fell one shutout shy of the school record of eight straight set in 2000.

Southern New Hampshire keeper Sean Lambert (Rehoboth, Mass.) saw his personal shutout streak snapped at 719:46.  He made three saves in the win, while Joyce turned aside four shots.  Merrimack generated a 14-11 shot advantage on the evening.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it travels to Assumption College for a 1:00 contest.  The Greyhounds are ranked No. 5 in the latest adidas/NSCAA East Region poll, while the Penmen are first.
