MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Sherry
Darrell (Bow, N.H.) set school single-game records for
goals and points with eight goals and three assists to lead
Southern New Hampshire University to a 22-8 Northeast-10
women's lacrosse victory over American International College
Monday at Larkin Field. The Penmen evened their overall
record at 1-1 and are 1-0 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets
suffered their first loss of the season and are now 4-1 and 0-1 in
the league.
Darrell's eight goals eclipse
the previous record of seven goals in a game set by teammate
Carole Lee (Derry, N.H.) against C.W. Post on
March 30, 2008, and her 11 points break the previous mark of nine
held by three players, including Darrell, who had nine points
against Saint Thomas Aquinas on April 27, 2008.
Sara Halbich
(Salem, N.H.) finished with four goals for the Penmen, who
also got three goals from Lee two goals and three assists from
Maura Murphy (Candia, N.H.). Jami
Shugrue (Lowell, Mass.) finished with two goals and an
assist, while Emily Mongeau (Westboro, Mass.)
added a goal and three assists. Kelly Curran
(Arlington, Mass.) and Rene DiPietro (Quincy,
Mass.) each added a goal for Southern New Hampshire.
Courtney Szawlowski paced American
International with two goals and two assists, while Ashleigh
Szawlowski totaled two goals and an assist. Katie Warner
scored twice, while Alex Hudyka and Morgan Mastronardi each added
single tallies.
AIC and Southern New Hampshire
traded the game's first five goals, with Warner giving the
Yellow Jackets a 3-2 lead 12:38 into the first half. The
Penmen then closed out the first half by scoring 11 unanswered
goals, and Darrell's tally 1:34 before intermission made it
13-3 at the break. Hudyka scored the first goal of the second
half for the guests, but the Penmen would score the next three
goals and maintained at least a 12-goal lead the rest of the way.
Hannah Moriarty
(Chelmsford, Mass.) made eight saves to earn the win for Southern
New Hampshire as the Penmen outshot the Yellow Jackets 42-21.
Gina Gallo turned aside 13 shots for AIC.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday when it hosts Saint Anselm College in a 4:00
contest at Larkin Field.
