MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Carole
Lee (Derry, N.H.) totaled four goals and three assists to
lead Southern New Hampshire University to an 18-9 win over Saint
Anselm College in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse Wednesday
afternoon. The Penmen improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the
NE-10, while the Hawks are now 2-2 and 0-1 in the league.
Lee led seven SNHU players who
finished with multiple goals on the afternoon. Sherry
Darrell (Bow, N.H.) finished with three goals and two
assists, while Jami Shugrue (Lowell, Mass.)
totaled two goals and three assists. Sara
Halbich (Salem, N.H.) added two goals and an assist, while
Kelly Curran (Arlington, Mass.), Maura
Murphy (Candia, N.H.) and Jade
Antonangeli (Bourne, Mass.) totaled two goals
apiece. Emily Mongeau (Westboro, Mass.)
added the other SNHU goal.
Meghan Smith led the Hawks with
four goals, while five other players added single tallies.
Saint Anselm jumped out to a 2-0
lead 2:17 into the game, but the Penmen scored the next three goals
and a goal by Curran with 23:43 left in the first half. Smith
tied the game on a free position shot 2:40 later, but the hosts
scored the next four goals and a Shugrue tally with 13:13 left
before intermission made it 7-3. SNHU took an 10-6 lead into
halftime.
The two teams traded goals early in
the second half before Southern New Hampshire put the game away
with five unanswered goals, with a Lee goal with 10:30 left making
it 16-7.
Hannah Moriarty
(Chelmsford, Mass.) made 13 saves in goal for Southern New
Hampshire as both teams registered 32 shots on the afternoon.
Katherine O'Hara made 12 saves for the Hawks.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Tuesday, March 23 in a 4:00 contest at Pfeiffer University.
