– The Southern New Hampshire University baseball
team split a pair of games Saturday, falling to Molloy 9-7 before
defeating Saint Michael's 14-3. The Penmen are 5-5 on
the season, while Saint Michael's is 1-8 and Molloy 7-12.
Against Saint Michael's, the
Penmen jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning then added four
runs in the top of the fifth to take a 9-0 lead. All nine
starters had at least one hit for the Penmen.
Scott Rogers
(Orr's Island, Maine) was 2-4 at the plate with three RBI,
while Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass.) was 1-3 with
four runs scored and three walks. Brandon
Dutch (Monroe, Conn.) went 2-6 with three runs scored,
while Patrick Copp (Cumberland, Maine) was 2-6
with an RBI. Jon Massad (Shrewsbury, Mass.)
went 2-6 with a double and an RBI.
Derrick Sylvester
(Franklin, N.H.) earned the win by throwing six innings, scattering
four hits and allowing just one unearned run. He fanned six
while walking two.
Against Molloy, SNHU jumped out to
a 3-1 lead after one inning and held a 7-1 lead following a pair of
runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Lions scored eight times
in the top of the ninth as they banged out seven hits and took
advantage of a pair of walks.
Bryant Gauthier
(Lynn, Mass.) worked the first seven innings on the hill for SNHU
and allowed just three hits and one unearned run while fanning six.
Eric Pelletier
(Beverly, Mass.) was 3-4 at the plate for the Penmen, driving in a
pair of runs, while Bobby Wronski (Arlington,
Mass.) went 1-2 with two walks and had a pair of RBI.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Sunday when it faces Northwood (Fla.) University in a 9:00
am contest.
