EASTON, Mass. – Host and No. 6 ranked Stonehill
College outscored Southern New Hampshire University 13-3 in the
second half en route to a 21-10 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse
victory Wednesday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium. The
Skyhawks improved to 4-1 and 3-1 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are
3-3 and 2-1 in the league.
Sarah Galligan led Stonehill with
six goals and an assist, while Jackie Ladino totaled four goals and
an assist. Liza Gross finished with three goals and two
assists, while Hannah Anderson added three goals and an assist.
Carole Lee (Derry,
N.H.) paced Southern New Hampshire with four goals, while
Emily Mongeau (Westborough, Mass.) scored three
times. Sara Halbich (Salem, N.H.) finished
with a pair of goals, while Jami Shugrue (Lowell,
Mass.) added a goal and an assist. Sherry
Darrell (Bow, N.H.) handed out four assists.
The Penmen scored the game's
first three goals and a goal by Halbich 6:46 into the game made it
3-0. SNHU held a 5-4 lead with just over 12 minutes to go in
the first half following a Mongeau tally, but the Skyhawks would
score the next three goals and a Gross goal with 4:47 left made it
7-5. The two teams would trade goals the rest of the half and
the Penmen trailed 8-7 at halftime.
Stonehill scored the first five
goals of the second half and took a 13-7 lead with 22:52 to play on
a free position shot by Ladino. The Penmen hung in and a goal
by Lee with six minutes to play made it 15-10. The Skyhawks
would close out the game by scoring six unanswered goals.
Rebecca Moore made 19 saves for
Stonehill as the Skyhawks outshot the Penmen 43-34.
Hannah Moriarty (Chelmsford, Mass.) turned aside
15 shots for Southern New Hampshire.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Friday afternoon when it travels to Molloy College for a
12:00 contest.
