 –  The Southern New Hampshire
University baseball team split a twinbill with Merrimack College on
Tuesday afternoon at Pappas Field in Rindge, N.H.  The Penmen
took the first game by a score of 3-1, then fell to the Warriors
3-1 in the nightcap.  After today's games, the Penmen
even their record at 3-3, while Merrimack's record lands at
1-1. 
SNHU would take the lead in the bottom of the third as
Kevin Spatkowski (Bristol, Conn.) tripled to right
center and then stole home.  Merrimack would answer in the top
of the fourth when Tim Curran would reach on an error, advance to
second, and then score on a single by teammate Ed Mederios. 
The Penmen would take the go-ahead run in the bottom of the
fourth. Robert Wronski (Arlington, Mass.) singled
to left field and advanced to second on a single by Tim
Rines (Merrimack, N.H.).  Jeff
Giannino (Beverly, Mass.) would then single to right
field, scoring Wronski.  A lead-off homerun by Jon
Minucci (Madison, Conn.) in the bottom of the fifth would
solidify the 3-1 victory for the Penmen. 
Garrett Jewell (Alexandria, N.H.) earned the
win on the mound for SNHU, allowing one run and three hits in 6.0
innings of work.  He also added eight strikeouts and only
walked three batters.  Brad Monroe (Hampton
Falls, N.H.) earned the save, tossing two strikeouts and allowing
no hits in one inning of work.  Ellis went the distance for
Merrimack, striking out eight but giving up six hits. 
In the nightcap, Merrimack would put the first tally on the
board in the bottom of the third as Paul Manganiello would walk,
advance to second on a balk, steal third and score on a wild pitch
by SNHU pitcher Derek Anderson (Dracut,
Mass).  The Penmen would even the game at 1-1 in the top of
the fourth inning as Rines, who reached on a fielder's
choice, would score on a double to right field by Giannino. 
Merrimack would tally runs in the bottom of the fourth and sixth
innings to capture the 3-1 win. 
Taylor Eames (Epsom, N.H.), Anderson, and
Jon Massad (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each pitched 2.0
innings for the Penmen, but the loss fell to Anderson, who gave up
one hit and the go-ahead Merrimack run.  McNeil earned the win
for the Warriors, going the distance with eight strikeouts and
holding the Penmen to five hits. 
The Penmen will be back in action this Saturday and Sunday,
traveling to play back-to-back doubleheaders with C.W. Post. Game
times are slated for 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on both
days.
