WORCESTER, Mass.—Southern New Hampshire
University's Sherry Darrell (Bow,
N.H.) scored nine goals and surpassed 100 career goals en route to
a 21-5 victory over the Greyhounds of Assumption College Wednesday
night in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse. With the win, the
Penmen better their record to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the
Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds fall to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in
the NE-10.
Darrell's nine goals tied her own single-game school record for
goals in a game. She would achieve the milestone of 100
career goals with 9:22 remaining in the first half. Darrell
now sits in the SNHU top-five in career goals with 103.
In addition to her nine goals, Darrell also added an
assist. Carole
Lee (Derry, N.H.) added four goals and five assists,
while Jami
Shugrue (Lowell, Mass.) added four goals and two
assists. Sara
Halbich (Salem, N.H.) contributed two goals and an
assist, Emily
Mongeau (Westborough, Mass.) added a goal and two
assists, and Jade Antonangeli
(Bourne, Mass.) added a single tally.
Assumption would get on the board first 13 seconds into the game
on an unassisted goal by Erin Theriault, but Southern New Hampshire
would answer with 14 straight goals to take a commanding 14-1 lead
at halftime.
The Penmen would add seven more goals in the second half while
allowing the Greyhounds to add four more. Theriault led
Assumption with three goals.
Hannah
Moriarty (Chelmsford, Mass.) earned the win in net for
the Penmen, recording seven saves while only allowing five
goals. Julie Verbic took the loss for the Greyhounds and
recorded nine saves as Southern New Hampshire outshot Assumption
38-14.
Southern New Hampshire will return to action on Saturday,
hosting Southern Connecticut at Larkin Field at 4:00
p.m.
