MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball team scored four times over the final three innings to rally for a 4-3 Northeast-10 win over The College of Saint Rose Sunday, after the Golden Knights posted an 11-2 win in the first game of the doubleheader.  The Penmen improved to 14-19 overall and 7-9 in the NE-10, while the Golden Knights are 11-24 and 6-12 in the league.

After trailing 3-0 after three innings, SNHU got on the board In the sixth.  Jon Minucci (Madison, Conn.) led off the inning with a single and scored on a single up the middle by Tim Rines (Merrimack, N.H.). 

The Penmen would then score twice in the seventh.  Brandon Dutch (Monroe, Conn.) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and scored on a bases-loaded passed ball when Minucci struck out swinging.  Brendan O'Brien (East Bridgewater, Mass.) drove in the tying run when his single scored Kevin Spatkowski (Bristol, Conn.).  Jon Massad (Shrewsbury, Mass.) also appeared to score on the hit, but was ruled out on appeal for failing to touch third.

SNHU scraped together the winning run in the bottom of the eighth as Rines led off with a single and scored when a Dutch smash got past Saint Rose third baseman Ryan Burke and down the line.

Saint Rose grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  Jesse Burba and John Cole led off the game with back-to-back singles, with Burba scoring on a double steal.  Cole would score when Grant Smith reached on an error.  The Golden Knights would tack on a run in the third when Cole singled with one out and scored when Smith reached on a fielders' choice.

Rines finished 3-4 at the plate for the Penmen as SNHU outhit Saint Rose 7-6, with Cole collecting two of the Golden Knight hits.  Bryant Gauthier (Lynn, Mass.) went the distance on the hill for Southern New Hampshire, fanning five and scattering six hits in his complete-game effort.  Kevin Scrobola worked 0.2 innings of relief and took the loss for Saint Rose, allowing a pair of runs.

In the opener, Saint Rose took a 1-0 lead in the first then scored five times in the second, using three hits, a pair of walks and an error.  Burba worked a bases-loaded walk to score Michael Carbone, while Cole added a two-run single and Derek Marshall a two-run double to right center.

SNHU scored a run in the second when Rines led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass.).  The other Penmen run came in the sixth when Thomas Quicker (West Islip, N.Y.) led off with a walk and scored on a single by Spatkowski.

All nine starters had a hit for Saint Rose in game one as the Golden Knights outhit the Penmen 17-7.  Cole had three hits to lead the guests, while Marshall was 2-4 with four runs driven in.  Rines and Spatkowski each had two hits for the Penmen.

Doug Dulin went 5.2 innings to pick up the win for Saint Rose, scattering six hits and fanning three.  SNHU starter Derrick Sylvester (Franklin, N.H.) went just 1.2 innings, allowing five hits and six runs (three earned) while fanning three and walking two to take the loss.

Southern New Hampshire hosts No. 29 Franklin Pierce University Monday for a 3:30 contest.
