ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Lori Sollitto totaled seven
goals and an assist as host Molloy College edged Southern New
Hampshire University in women's lacrosse Friday
afternoon. The Lions improved to 8-1 overall with the
victory, while the Penmen are now 3-4 on the season.
Four other players finished with
multiple goals for Molloy. Kristie Sosnowski totaled two
goals and two assists, while Hayley Lacey and Rebecca LaFlare each
finished with two goals and an assist. Emily Antonette found
the back of the net twice, while Kerianne Steine added a goal and
two assists on the afternoon.
Emily Mongeau
(Westborough, Mass.) led Southern New Hampshire with four goals and
two assists, while Sherry Darrell (Bow, N.H.)
added three goals and three assists. Carole
Lee (Derry, N.H.) registered three goals and a pair of
assists, while Sara Halbich (Salem, N.H.) also
scored three times. Jade Antonangeli
(Bourne, Mass.) notched a pair of goals, while Brittany
Whiteway (Billerica, Mass.) and Rene
DiPietro (Quincy, Mass.) each added single tallies.
Molloy jumped out to a 3-0 lead
3:52 into the game and held a 7-2 advantage midway through the
first half. The Penmen would chip away, and a goal by
Whiteway 1:40 before intermission made it 12-9 in favor of the
Lions, which would be the halftime score.
Southern New Hampshire scored the
first four goals of the second half and an unassisted score by
Darrell with 20:39 remaining gave the Penmen their first lead of
the game 13-12. The hosts countered with four straight goals
of their own, and Sollitto's goal with 12:41 left gave Molloy
a 16-13 lead.
The Penmen scored three straight
goals to tie the game 16-16 with 7:55 left, when Halbich scored 15
seconds after Lee made it 16-15. The Lions would take the
lead for good with 5;28 left on a Sollitto goal, and Sollitto made
it 18-16 with just over two minutes left. Halbich made it
18-17 with 1:19 to go. Molloy would win the ensuing draw and
run out the clock.
Jackie Bove made 13 saves between
the pipes for Molloy, as both teams attempted 39 shots on the
afternoon. Hannah Moriarty (Chelmsford,
Mass.) was credited with nine saves for the Penmen.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
Northeast-10 play Thursday night when it hosts Franklin Pierce
University in a 7:00 contest at Larkin Field.
