MANCHESTER, N.H. –
Sherry Darrell (Bow, N.H.) totaled six goals and an assist
to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 20-10 Northeast-10
women's lacrosse victory over Saint Michael's College
Tuesday afternoon at Larkin Field. The Penmen, who extended
their win streak to five games, are now 8-4 and 7-1 in the NE-10,
while the Purple Knights are 2-9 and 2-6 in the league.
Emily Mongeau
(Westboro, Mass.) added four goals and two assists for the Penmen,
who got four goals from Carole Lee (Derry,
N.H.). Jami Shugrue (Lowell, Mass.) notched
two goals and an assist, while Sara Halbich
(Salem, N.H.) posted a goal and two assists. Jade Antonangeli (Bourne, Mass.) and Kelly Curran (Arlington, Mass.) each added single goals for the
Penmen.
Graduate student Maura Murphy (Candia, N.H.), who has been forced to miss
SNHU's last three games and will miss the remainder of the
season due to injury, started the game as it was Senior Day for the
Penmen, and opened the scoring for SNHU 2:33 into the contest.
Spenser Wolfe led Saint
Michael's with four goals, while Alee Ramos had a pair of
tallies for the Purple Knights.
Southern New Hampshire never
trailed as it opened up a 4-0 lead 10 minutes into the
contest. The Penmen led 7-1 on a Shugrue goal with 14:29 to
play in the first half and opened up a 12-4 advantage on
Antonangeli's goal with 5:23 left. The hosts held a
13-5 halftime lead.
The Penmen would score three of the
first four goals of the second half and a tally by Lee with 15:28
remaining gave SNHU a 16-6 lead. Southern New Hampshire
maintained at least a nine-goal advantage the rest of the way.
Hannah Moriarty
(Chelmsford, Mass.) made six saves for the Penmen as they outshot
the Purple Knights 41-20. Sandra Palumbo went the first 45
minutes in goal for Saint Michael's and made nine saves
before giving way to Meghan McLaughlin, who made one save.
Southern New Hampshire travels to
top-ranked and defending Division II national champion Adelphi
University for a 1:00 contest Saturday.
