Women's Lacrosse Downed by Bentley in OT

WALTHAM, Mass. – Host Bentley University scored six times in overtime to lead Bentley University to a 22-16 women's lacrosse win over Southern New Hampshire University Wednesday night.  With the win, the Falcons improve to 10-7 and 8-3 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are 8-6 and 7-3 in the league.

Cori Geiger and Leah Leavitt led Bentley with four goals and an assist apiece, while Taylor Bastien totaled three goals and an assist.  Leigh Tedeschi and Maureen Fields each scored three times.

Carole Lee (Derry, N.H.) led Southern New Hampshire with five goals, while Sara Halbich (Salem, N.H.) registered four goals and a pair of assists.  Sherry Darrell (Bow, N.H.) added three goals and an assist and passed the 200-point mark for her career, while Emily Mongeau (Westboro, Mass.) recorded two goals and a pair of assists.  Jami Shugrue (Lowell, Mass.) finished with a goal and two assists, while Jade Antonangeli (Bourne, Mass.) had the other SNHU tally.

Bentley would outscore Southern New Hampshire 6-0 in overtime, with Megan Wiggins giving the Falcons a 17-16 lead 20 seconds into overtime on a free position goal.  Wiggins led Bentley with a pair of goals in the extra frame as the hosts had five different goal scorers.

Southern New Hampshire led 12-6 at halftime and 15-10 with 13:27 to play following a goal by Mongeau, but Bentley would reel off five unanswered goals and a Geiger goal with just over five minutes left tied the game 15-15.  Lee would reclaim the lead for the Penmen with 3:25 left on an assist by Mongeau, but Leavitt would tie the game with 22 seconds remaining to force overtime.

The Penmen scored the first four goals of the game and opened up a 7-1 lead 13:37 into the game following Shugrue's goal.  The Penmen would take a 12-5 lead 4:36 before halftime on a Lee goal and led 12-6 at intermission.

Kate Poznick played the first 8:40 in goal for Bentley and allowed five goals with no saves before being relieved by Julia Powell, who made eight stops and allowed 11 goals.  Hannah Moriarty (Chelmsford, Mass.) went the distance in net for the Penmen and made eight saves.  Bentley held a 38-31 shot advantage on the evening.

Southern New Hampshire closes out the regular season when it travels to Merrimack College for a 1:00 contest Saturday.
