EASTON, Mass.
– Visiting Southern New Hampshire University posted
a 5-2 Northeast-10 baseball victory over Stonehill College at
Gorman Field Monday afternoon. The Penmen, who have now won
six out of their last seven, are now 11-14 and 4-4 in the NE-10,
while the Skyhawks are 9-10 and 5-3 in the league.
SNHU took a 2-0 lead in the top of
the third when a single by Eric Pelletier
(Beverly, Mass.) scored Jon Minucci (Madison,
Conn.) and Brendan O'Brien (East
Bridgewater, Mass.). The Skyhawks would tie the game with two
runs in the fifth, but the Penmen would reclaim the lead in the
sixth, scoring twice. Bobby Wronski
(Arlington, Mass.) and Thomas Dutch (Monroe,
Conn.) opened the frame with back-to-back singles, and eventually
scored on a double by Kevin Spatkowski (Bristol,
Conn.).
The Penmen made it 5-2 in the
eighth, as Dutch led off the inning with a single and scored when
Minucci reached on an error.
Pelletier led the Penmen with three
hits on the afternoon, while Dutch and Spatkowski each hit safely
twice. Derrick Sylvester (Franklin, N.H.)
went eight innings on the hill for Southern New Hampshire,
scattering nine hits and allowing two runs while fanning
nine. Steve Golbranson (Abington, Mass.)
earned the save by inducing a 4-6-3 double play after entering the
game with bases-loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth.
Southern New Hampshire travels to
Saint Anselm College for a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon.
