MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sherry Darrell (Bow, N.H.)
totaled six goals and an assist as Southern New Hampshire
University scored nine of the game's final 10 goals en route
to a 20-11 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory Thursday
night at Larkin Field. The Penmen improved to 4-4 and 3-1 in
the NE-10, while the Ravens fall to 3-6 and 1-4 in the league.
Darrell led six players who
finished with multiple goals for the Penmen. Maura Murphy (Candia, N.H.) totaled three goals and three
assists, while Emily Mongeau (Westboro, Mass.)
added three goals and an assist. Sara Halbich (Salem, N.H.) registered two goals and an assist,
while Kelly Curran (Arlington, Mass.) and
Carole Lee (Derry, N.H.) each scored twice.
Jami Shugrue (Lowell, Mass.) recorded a goal
and two assists while Jade Antonangeli (Bourne,
Mass.) had the other Penmen tally.
Mary Kate Stille led Franklin
Pierce with three goals and an assist, while Jordan Baillargeon and
Lauren Stille each totaled two goals and an assist. Courtney
Webber and Brianna Nash each scored twice for the Ravens.
Franklin Pierce, which never led,
trailed 10-6 at halftime, but scored four of the first five goals
of the second half and back-to-back goals by Mary Kate Stille at
25:11 and 23:50 reduced the Penmen advantage to one, 11-10.
It would remain a one-goal game until Darrell scored at 15:27, and
Halbich would make it 13-10 13 seconds later. The Penmen
would make it 16-10 with 7:43 left on Murphy's goal, and
closed out the game with four unanswered goals in the final
2:28.
The Ravens would cut the SNHU lead
to one three times in the first half, but the Penmen would outscore
Franklin Pierce 5-2 over the final 10:55 of the first half, and a
Murphy goal 1:43 before intermission put the hosts on top 10-6 at
the break.
Hannah Moriarty
(Chelmsford, Mass.) made 18 saves en route to the win for Southern
New Hampshire, as the Penmen outshot the Ravens 44-33.
Jillian Bolduc made 14 stops for Franklin Pierce.
Southern New Hampshire travels to
the University of New Haven on Saturday for a 1:00 contest.
The game is a rematch of last season's Northeast-10
championship game won by the Chargers by a 12-7 score.
