Michael Adam
(Ludlow, Mass.) scored twice as No. 4 Southern New
Hampshire University recorded a 2-0 Northeast-10 men's soccer
victory over Stonehill College at Larkin Field Tuesday
evening. The Penmen extend their record to 5-0 (2-0
Northeast-10) with their third straight shutout, while the Skyhawks
suffered their first defeat of the season, falling to 3-1 (1-1
Northeast-10).
The victory brings the Penmen to
5-0, their best start to a season since the 1997 season. SNHU
is also currently on an eight-game unbeaten streak dating back to
last season.
A foul on Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) within the box led to a penalty
kick conversion by Adam at the 26:24 mark of the first
half. His strike beat Skyhawks netminder Brandon McFarlane
down low to put the Penmen up by a goal exiting the half.
Adam scored his second goal of the
game, an unassisted tally, at 48:31 of the second half. The
senior midfielder collected a loose ball and dribbled through two
Skyhawk defenders and fired it home past McFarlane. The goal
was Adam's third marker of the season.
Jon Mayo
(Merrimack, N.H.) turned aside four shots en route to the shutout,
his second of the season. McFarlane turned aside four shots
on net. The Penmen outshot the Skyhawks 19-9.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday, as they travel to American International College
for a 6:00 p.m. tilt. The Penmen return home the following
Wednesday as they face off against conference rival UMass Lowell at
