PHILADELPHIA
– Senior Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) of
the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team
advanced to the semifinals of the A singles draw at the USTA/ITA
East Regional Sunday. Chandronnait, who has captured the
singles title at the event the last two years, advanced with a 6-0,
6-0 win over Marie-Louise Klein of Goldey-Beacom and a 6-3, 6-3 win
over Jessica Nunez of University of the District of Columbia in the
quarterfinals. She will face Juliana Victoria of Holy Family
in Monday's semifinal round.
Alena Mukdaprakorn
(Hartford, Conn.) and Catalina Echeverry (Cali,
Colombia) also advanced to the quarterfinals. Mukdaprakorn
was a winner over Stonehill's Lindsay Herschel in the second
round before bowing to third-seeded Laura Mocodaenu of Queens
(N.Y.) in the quarterfinals. Echeverry prevailed over Andrea
Salvetova of Queens 6-1, 6-0 in the second round before falling to
seventh-seeded Nastia Shcherbakova of Chestnut Hill in the
quarters. SNHU was the lone team to have three players reach
the round of eight.
Chandronnait and Mukdaprakorn also
reached the semifinals of the A doubles bracket, defeating Maria
Ortiz and Juliana Frey of Concordia 8-1 in the quarterfinals before
falling 8-1 in the semifinals to Concordia's Ola Roberts and
Yuliya Plevako 8-1.
The doubles tandem of Echeverry and
Kara Pease (Falmouth, Mass.) reached the finals of
the B doubles draw, where they will face Leah White and Kaitlyn
Martin of Stonehill Monday. The duo defeated Paulina
Sotomayor and Rachel Litton of Bentley 8-4 in the quarterfinals
before topping another Stonehill tandem, Paige Frost and Chelsea
Haedrich, 8-4 in the semifinals.
In B singles action, Pease,
Samantha Jean (Bedford, N.H.) and Jennifer
Zastrow (Rutland, Mass.) each advanced to the round of 16
before falling.
