EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – The No. 38 Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2010-11 season with a 9-0 win over Pace University in a match played at the East Hartford Tennis Club Friday. The Penmen improved to 4-0 overall and in the NE-10, while the Setters are now 0-4 and 0-2 in the league.
With the win, the Penmen have now captured 21 straight Northeast-10 Conference regular season matches dating back to the 2008-09 season and have won 19 overall regular season matches in a row dating back to last season.
In singles play, Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.), the No. 18-ranked singles player in Division II, defeated Simona Mrazova in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3, while Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) was an 8-0 winner at No. 5. In doubles play, Echeverry and Kirsten Jean were 8-0 winners at No. 2, while Samantha Jean (Bedford, N.H.) and Kara Pease (Falmouth, Mass.) were 8-0 winners at No. 3.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action with a three-game Florida swing, starting with a March 7 date against No. 15 Grand Valley State University.
