Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FLEMINGTON, N.J. – Wilmington (Del.) University swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader from Southern New Hampshire University by scores of 10-3 and 2-1 Saturday at Diamond Nation.  The twinbill marked the season opener for both schools.  The Wildcats are the preseason favorite in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, while the Penmen were picked seven in the Northeast-10.

In game two, the Penmen staked themselves to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.  Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass.) worked a leadoff walk, then after Bobby Wronski (Arlington, Mass.) was hit by a pitch, freshman Albert Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) doubled to score Boulter.  Wronski was thrown out at the plate attempting to make it 2-0.

Wilmington would tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth of the seven-inning contest then scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when Garrett Jewell (Alexandria, N.H.) issued a bases loaded walk after Zach LeBarron (Bennington, Vt.) hit a batter and allowed a walk to start the inning.

Brad Monroe (Hampton Falls, N.H.) went six innings for the Penmen and allowed just four hits and struck out eight while walking two.  LeBarron took the loss for SNHU.

In game one, the Wildcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  The Penmen got a run back in the second when Juan Amador (Derry, N.H.) singled and was driven in on a triple by Kevin Spatkowski (Bristol, Conn.).  Wilmington would tack on three runs in the fourth to make it 8-1, and added single tallies in the fifth and seventh.

The Penmen would score twice in the top of the ninth.  Zachary Robins (Westford, Mass.) worked a leadoff pinch hit walk and was driven in by Greg Pezzuto (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.).  Stanton would double and be brought in by Jon Minucci (Madison, Conn.).

Bryant Gauthier (Lynn, Mass.) took the loss for Southern New Hampshire, allowing 11 hits in four innings of work while recording a pair of strikeouts.  David Gibson (Hanover, Mass.) worked three innings on the mound and allowed four hits and two runs, while Alex Powers (Brewster, Mass.) struck out the side in the eighth.

Southern New Hampshire and Wilmington will play another doubleheader at Diamond Nation starting at noon on Sunday.
