DUE WEST, S.C. –Junior Emily Mongeau (Westborough, Mass.) totaled five goals and a pair of assists to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 21-6 victory over Erskine College in women's lacrosse Monday afternoon at Huggins Field. The game marked the season opener for the Penmen, while the Flying Fleet are now 1-4 on the season.
Mongeau led nine SNHU players in the scoring column on Monday. Jade Antonangeli (Bourne, Mass.) finished with four goals and two assists, while freshmen Justine Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Ellie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) each tallied two goals and two assists. Ashley Chu (Framingham, Mass.), another freshman, notched two goals and an assist, while classmates Phoebe Clark (Concord, N.H.) and Kayleigh Dube (Bourne, Mass.) added two goals apiece. Sara Halbich (Salem, N.H.) registered a goal and an assist, while freshman Jenna Crupi (Albany, N.Y.) added a single goal.
Alesia Jerrells led Erskine with a pair of goals.
Southern New Hampshire put the game away early, scoring seven times in the game's first 5:45 to build a 7-0 advantage following Halbich's goal. Jerrells would get the Flying Fleet on the board at the 22:42 mark, but the Penmen scored the next two goals before Jerrells scored again at 14:31 to make it 9-2. The Penmen closed the half on a 6-1 run to take a 15-3 lead at halftime. SNHU scored the first three goals of the second half to build an 18-3 advantage with 18:36 remaining on a goal by Mongeau.
Hannah Moriarty (Chelmsford, Mass.) went the distance in goal for Southern New Hampshire and turned aside seven shots. Kaitlyn Overley registered 12 saves for Erskine as the Penmen outshot the Flying Fleet 42-19.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday night when it travels to Queens (N.C.) University for a 6:00 contest.
