Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. –Three Southern New Hampshire University pitchers did not allow a hit over the final six innings and combined to shut out Saint Anselm College 5-0 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Penmen Field.  The Penmen won for the sixth time in seven outings and are now 15-14 overall, while the Hawks saw a four-game win streak snapped and are now 15-15 on the season.

Freshman David Gibson (Hanover, Mass.) (pictured) earned the win for the Penmen, not allowing a hit in three innings of relief while striking out two.  Starter Zach LeBarron (Bennington, Vt.) went five innings and allowed four hits while fanning six.  Ryan Walfield (Stratford, N.H.) closed out the game in the ninth.

Saint Anselm starter Tim Cooney did not allow a hit in six innings of work, but took the loss as Southern New Hampshire scraped together a run without a hit in the sixth.  William O'Connor allowed three of the four Penmen hits in the seventh and gave up four runs.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kevin Spatkowski (Bristol, Conn.) worked a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Juan Amador (Derry, N.H.).  Tim Rines (Merrimack, N.H.) walked, and Spatkowski and Rines would both move into scoring position on a wild pitch.  Jamie Wollerman (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) flied out to left field in foul territory, with Spatkowski able to score on the sac fly.

In the seventh, Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford, Mass.) tripled to right for the first Southern New Hampshire hit of the game.  Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass.) hit a sac fly to center to plate O'Neil.  With the bases loaded and two away, Rines hit a three-run double over the head of Hawk left fielder Josh Lafond, scoring Jon Massad (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Spatkowski and Amador.

Saint Anselm's best chance to score came into third as it loaded the bases with one out.  LeBarron was able to work out of the jam by striking out Daniel DeCoste and getting Nate Gonya to ground out.

Both teams finished with four hits and a pair of errors.  Robert Kelly led Saint Anselm with two hits.

Southern New Hampshire is slated to return to action Wednesday when it hosts No. 13/19 Franklin Pierce University in a 3:30 game at Penmen Field.
