Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away from Saint Michael's, Clinches NE-10 Playoff Spot

COLCHESTER, Vt.Emily Mongeau (Westborough, Mass.) totaled six goals and an assist as Southern New Hampshire University broke open a 7-3 game at halftime with eight straight goals en route to a 16-4 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory against Saint Michael's College Friday afternoon at Duffy Field.  The Penmen, who wrapped up their sixth straight Northeast-10 tournament berth with the victory, improves to 9-6 and 7-4 in the NE-10, while the Purple Knights are now 2-13 and 1-10 in the league.

Mongeau also finished with six ground balls and four draw controls.  Justine Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Ellie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) each finished with two goals and an assist, while Sara Halbich (Salem, N.H.) and Ashley Chu (Framingham, Mass.) each scored twice.  Kelly Curran (Arlington, Mass.) and Kayleigh Dube (Bourne, Mass.) added single tallies, while Jade Antonangeli (Bourne, Mass.) handed out three assists.

Eliza Scoba led Saint Michael's with a goal and an assist, recording her 100th career point in the process.

Southern New Hampshire held a 7-3 lead but broke the game open with eight straight goals to open the second half.  Mongeau scored two goals 26 seconds apart to make it 9-3 with 27:33 remaining, then Chu would score 16 seconds later to make it a 10-3 contest.  Chu's second goal of the game with 9:38 remaining gave the guests a 15-3 lead.

The Penmen opened up a 3-0 lead 11 minutes into the game following a Morin tally, but Spenser Wolfe and Claire Martin would score 57 seconds apart for Saint Michael's to make it 3-2 with 15:39 left.  SNHU scored the next two goals to make it 5-3 before Elizabeth Siekman scored 4:29 before intermission to cut the Penmen lead to two.  Dube and Curran each scored in the final minute of the first half to give Southern New Hampshire a 7-3 halftime advantage.

Hannah Moriarty (Chelmsford, Mass.) went the distance in goal for Southern New Hampshire and made seven saves.  Sandy Palumbo turned aside 22 shots for Saint Michael's as the Penmen outshot the Purple Knights 46-15. 

Southern New Hampshire closes out the regular season Saturday when it hosts top-ranked Adelphi for a noon contest at Larkin Field.
