Baseball Pounds Past Bentley, Ties Single-Season Win Mark

Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H.Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford, Mass.) led a 13-hit Southern New Hampshire University attack at the plate by going 3-5 with two RBI as the Penmen defeated Bentley University 15-7 in Northeast-10 baseball Friday at Penmen Field.  With the win, SNHU improves to 21-19 overall and 9-11 in the NE-10, while the Falcons are now 11-23 and 5-12 in the league.

The 21 wins matches the SNHU single-season school record for victories in a season.  The Penmen posted a 21-16 record during the 1994 season.  The 15 runs is the most in a conference game since the Penmen blanked Saint Rose 16-0 on April 26, 2007.

O'Neil also scored a pair of runs as the Penmen jumped out to an 11-2 lead after four innings.  Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass.) was 2-3 with three runs batted in, including a solo inside the park home run in the fourth.  Jon Minucci (Madison, Conn.) was 2-4 with an eighth-inning grand slam, while Albert Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) belted a three-run home run in the third.  Juan Amador (Derry, N.H.) finished 2-2 at the plate.

Ross Curley led Bentley with a pair of hits, including a two-run home run down the left field line in the top of the third.

The hosts jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.  O'Neil got the Penmen on the board when his single plated Tim Rines (Merrimack, N.H.), who opened the game with a single.  Boulter hit a two-run single to score Stanton and O'Neil, while a double that hit the left field line by Bobby Wronski (Arlington, Mass.) scored Boulter.

Amador would make it 5-0 in the second when, after working a leadoff walk, scored, scored on an O'Neil double to the gap in left center.  In the third, Stanton's three-run shot down the left field line came as part of a five-run frame.  Boulter made it 11-2 in the fourth with his leadoff inside the park home run to center.

Bentley would draw to within 11-7 with three runs in the eighth, but Minucci's grand slam in the eighth gave the Penmen an eight-run cushion.

Brad Monroe (Hampton Falls, N.H.) (pictured) earned his fifth victory of the season for Southern New Hampshire, allowing five hits and four runs (two earned) in six innings, fanning five while walking two.  Dan Murphy took the loss for Bentley, allowing eight hits and 10 runs (six earned) in 2.2 innings of work.  He walked four without striking out a batter.

Southern New Hampshire travels to No. 13 Southern Connecticut State University for a noon doubleheader Saturday.
