Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H.—Nick Violandi scored three times to lead the visiting Assumption College men's lacrosse team to a 7-4 victory against the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in NE-10 play, while the win boosts the Greyhounds to 6-4 and 2-3 in league play.
Assumption would score the first goal of the game with 3:16 remaining in the first quarter on an unassisted goal by Will Langevin. The Penmen would even the score at one goal apiece with 11 seconds remaining in the quarter as Greg Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) tallied his tenth goal of the season.
Assumption would add three-straight goals in the second quarter to take the 4-1 lead entering halftime. The Greyhounds would extend their lead to four goals on a goal by Tim Roy at the 13:16 mark. Following a slashing penalty by Matthew Langill (Billerica, Mass.), the Penmen would go on to score back-to-back man-down goals by Keith Merluzzo (Billerica, Mass.) and Marc Novaco (Chelmsford, Mass.) at the 11:34 and 11:07 marks, respectively. Assumption would answer with in extra-man goal by John Murphy to round out the third quarter with a 6-3 score in favor of the Greyhounds.
Violandi would tally a goal early in the fourth quarter to give the Greyhounds the 7-3 advantage. SNHU's James Sabino (Danvers, Mass.) would round out scoring with an unassisted goal with 3:24 remaining in the game.
For the Greyhounds, Langevin finished with two goals and an assist, while Roy added a goal and an assist.
Brendan O'Brien (Hopkinton, Mass.) took the loss in net for the Penmen and recorded 17 saves. Scott Vogel earned the win for Assumption and posted 12 saves. Assumption outshot SNHU 44-22 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday, April 9 as it travels to American International College for a 2:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference matchup.
