EASTON, Mass. – In a battle between the two remaining unbeaten women's tennis teams in the Northeast-10 Conference, No. 29 Southern New Hampshire University defeated Stonehill College 6-3 at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts Friday afternoon. The Penmen improved to 11-2 and 10-0 in the NE-10, winning their sixth straight match, while the Skyhawks saw a seven-match win streak snapped and are now 12-2 and 8-1 in the league. The match was also a rematch of last season's NE-10 Tournament championship match.
The win is also SNHU's 27th straight in Northeast-10 regular season play, tying the Penmen for fourth place among longest NE-10 regular season win streaks in conference history. Southern New Hampshire is tied with Pace University, which won 27 straight NE-10 regular season contests from 1997-2000.
SNHU was victorious in two of three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) and Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) were 8-3 winners at No. 1, while Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) were 8-5 winners at No. 2.
In singles play, the Penmen swept the top three positions, as Chandronnait, Mukdaprakorn and Echeverry were victorious at Nos. 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Jean was also victorious at the No. 5 spot, besting fellow freshman Kaitlyn Martin 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).
