NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – No. 29 Southern New Hampshire University downed American International College 9-0 in Northeast-10 women's tennis Saturday afternoon at Smith College. The Penmen won their seventh straight to improve to 12-2 overall and 11-0 in NE-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets are 0-10 and 0-9 in the league.
The win is SNHU's 28th straight regular season Northeast-10 match, giving it sole possession of the fourth-longest regular-season win streak in conference history. The third-longest streak belongs to Bryant University, which won 35 straight matches from 2002-06.
In doubles play, Katherine Wait (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) saw her first action of the season, teaming with Kara Pease (Falmouth, Mass.) for an 8-0 win at No. 3. In singles action, Courtney Puddester (Wrentham, Mass.) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner in her collegiate debut, while Jennifer Zastrow (Rutland, Mass.) made her season debut and was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 6.
The Penmen dropped just two games, both in singles play.
Southern New Hampshire can clinch a share of its second-straight Northeast-10 regular season title Sunday at home against Saint Michael's. The match time has been moved up one hour and will now start at noon.
