MANCHESTER, N.H. –Second-seeded Concordia (N.Y.) College advanced in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship with a 5-1 win over No. 3 seed Southern New Hampshire University Monday at The Derryfield School. The Clippers improve to 16-2 and advance to next week's round of 16 in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The Penmen saw a 13-match win streak snapped and see their season come to a close at 18-3 overall.
The Clippers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Ola Roberts and Yuliya Plevako, the top-ranked doubles team in the East Region, downed Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) and Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) 8-4 at No. 1. Maria Ortiz and Juliana Frey were 8-6 winners over Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) at No. 2, while Ana Mendes and Adeline Brennan won by an identical score at No. 3 over Samantha Jean (Bedford, N.H.) and Kara Pease (Falmouth, Mass.).
Echeverry got SNHU's point at No. 3 singles by a 6-1, 6-3 count to make it 3-1, but singles wins by Brennan at No. 6 and Clara Catanzano at No. 4 closed out the match for Concordia.
Southern New Hampshire was making its third-straight appearance in the NCAA tournament.
