Penmen Nine Push Past Felician 10-2

Box Score

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior Mendez (Patchogue, N.Y.) allowed three hits and two runs in seven innings of work and Southern New Hampshire University used a pair of five-run innings to push past Felician College 10-2 in non-conference baseball action at the Ripken Experience Sunday morning.  The Penmen upped their record to 4-0, their best start since 2006, while the Golden Falcons are now 4-4 overall.

Sophomore Mendez didn't allow a hit until the fourth when Felician led off with three straight singles as it plated its two runs of the game.  He struck out four while walking one.

Southern New Hampshire scored five times in the top of the fourth to build a 5-0 lead.  The Penmen loaded the bases with nobody out as Al Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) led off with a single, followed by Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass.) working a walk.  Andy Lalli (Lakeville, Mass.) loaded the bases when he reached on an error after trying to sacrifice to move the lead runners over.  Jamie Wollerman (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) drove in the game's first run with his groundout to short.

Jon Minucci (Madison, Conn.) was hit by a pitch to again load the bases, then Boulter and Lalli scored when Bryan Toland (Wildwood, N.J.) reached on an error.  Riley Palmer (Goffstown, N.H.) then delivered a two-run single to make it 5-0.

The Penmen plated five more runs in the eighth.  The first five batters of the frame reached base, with Minucci delivering a bases-clearing triple that scored Boulter, Lalli and Wollerman.  James McGowan (Mahopac, N.Y.) made it 10-2 when his groundout plated Minucci.

Tyler Gauthier (Lynn, Mass.) worked a perfect eighth on the hill for Southern New Hampshire, striking out a batter, while Alex Powers (Brewster, Mass.) allowed a hit working the ninth.  The Penmen outhit the Golden Falcons 5-4.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it again faces Felician, this time in Lantana, Fla.  That game is slated for a 1:00 start.
