Women's Lacrosse Earns First Win of 2012, Grounds Owls 22-10

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern New Hampshire women's lacrosse team downed Southern Connecticut State University 22-10 en route to their first victory of the season in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field. The Penmen upped their record to 1-3 overall, and 1-1 in conference play, while the Owls are now 1-3 and 0-2 in the league.

Emily Mongeau (Westborough, Mass.) led the way for the Penmen while totaling eight points including six goals and two assists.  Eight players scored for the Penmen, including a career first goal coming from freshman Meghan Quirk (Scarborough, Maine). Ellie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) (pictured) contributed five goals along with an assist, while Phoebe Clark (Concord, N.H.) and Emily King (Florence, Mass.) both added three goals for the Penmen. Jade Antonangeli (Bourne, Mass.) contributed four assists.

 Elaina Heiple led SCSU with four goals and an assist while Erica Sedler added four goals.

The Penmen opened up a 4-1 lead just five minutes into the first half. Mongeau contributed three of the goals, while Kayleigh Dube (Bourne, Mass.) added one. Southern Connecticut would answer with five straight goals, three of which coming from Heiple, to take a 6-4 lead just past the midpoint of the half.  The Penmen outscored the Owls 4-1 the rest of the frame and a Justine Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) tally 4:12 before halftime gave the hosts an 8-7 halftime lead.

The Penmen scored seven unanswered goals to open the second half, pushing their lead to eight, 15-7, on Morin's tally with 16:47 to play.

Kellie Renk (Kennebunk, Maine) totaled eight saves in 60 minutes in goal for SNHU, while Southern Connecticut goalie Lynette Martinez stopped 24 of the Penmen's 46 shots on goal as Southern New Hampshire outshot the Owls 59-24.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday, March 21, when it travels to Bentley University for a Northeast-10 matchup under the lights for a 7:00 pm start.
