WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 11 Bentley University jumped out to a 14-7 halftime lead en route to a 20-13 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory over Southern New Hampshire University Wednesday night. The Falcons improved to 2-2 and 2-0 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 1-4 and 1-2 in the league.
Cori Geiger led Bentley with five goals and two assists, while Chelsea Larivee recorded four goals. Jackie Brown finished with three goals and an assist, while Caroline Kynoch added three goals.
Emily King (Florence, Mass.) (pictured) led Southern New Hampshire with three goals, while Jade Antonangeli (Bourne, Mass.) and Phoebe Clark (Concord, N.H.) each recorded two goals and two assists. Lindsay Bucknam (Bow, N.H.) and Emily Mongeau (Westborough, Mass.) added two goals apiece, while Justine Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Ellie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) each recorded single tallies.
Mongeau opened the game's scoring 1:18 into the contest before Bentley reeled off six unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead on a Kynoch goal at the 24:29 mark. The two teams traded goals, with Bucknam's tally at the 14:40 mark making it 10-5 in favor of the Falcons, but the hosts scored the game's next four goals to go up 14-5 with 8:24 left, and held a 14-7 lead at the break.
Bentley maintained at least a seven goal advantage the entire second half and went up by as many as 10 over the final 30 minutes.
Kate Poznick and Ally Dorman each played a half in goal for Bentley and combined to make 11 saves while Penmen netminder Kellie Renk (Kennebunk, Maine) turned aside six shots as the Falcons outshot Southern New Hampshire 30-28.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it travels to Assumption College for a noon contest.
