Baseball Rolls to 12-1 Win over Wilmington, Remains Unbeaten

LANTANA, Fla. – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball team extended its season-opening win streak to 12 games with a 12-1 win over Wilmington (Del.) University Thursday evening at the Santaluces Complex.  The Penmen, who are ranked third in the NCBWA East Region poll, are now 12-0, while the Wildcats, who are ranked fourth in the same poll, fell to 4-3.

Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.  Brendan O'Brien (East Bridgewater, Mass.) led off the game with a single and after moving on a single by Al Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.), scored on an error.  Stanton came home on a Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass.) double, while Jamie Wollerman's (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) single plated Boulter.

The Penmen grabbed two more runs in the third to go up 5-0.  Stanton tripled to start the inning and scored on a sac fly by Boulter.  Andy Lalli (Lakeville, Mass.) scored SNHU's fifth run with a steal of home after reaching on a hit by pitch.  Wilmington scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-1.

SNHU recorded four runs in the seventh and three more in the ninth.  In the seventh, Wollerman, Jon Minucci (Madison, Conn.) and Riley Palmer (Goffstown, N.H.) all drove in runs with singles, while O'Brien worked a bases-loaded walk to make it 9-1.  Kevin Spatkowski (Bristol, Conn.) delivered a three-run home run in the ninth that brought in Darrin Standish (Southold, N.Y.) and Alejandro Diaz (Old Bridge, N.J.).

Tim Flight (Portsmouth, R.I.) earned his second win of the season on the mound, working six innings and allowing five hits while fanning eight.  Tyler Gauthier (Lynn, Mass.), Frank Fantino (Nanuet, N.Y.) and AJ Dusablon (Burlington, Vt.) each worked an inning of relief.  The Penmen outhit the Wildcats 16-9.

Southern New Hampshire wraps up its 10-game Florida trip Friday when it takes on Bloomfield College in a 12:30 doubleheader at Santaluces.
