Box Score NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) recorded his third straight game-winning goal with just over 10 minutes remaining as the third-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team opened Northeast-10 play with a 2-1 win at Merrimack College Tuesday night. The Penmen remained unbeaten at 4-0 and 1-0 in the NE-10, while the Warriors now stand 2-2-1 and 0-2 in the league.
The win marks SNHU's first win over Merrimack since the 2009 season.
Following a restart, sophomore Keegan Campbell (Norton, Mass.) lofted a ball into the box on a set piece that was headed home by Tsonis for his fourth goal and third game-winning goal of the season.
Southern New Hampshire opened the game's scoring in the 19th minute as Mohamed Toufik (Grande Synthe, France) scored his second goal of the season, an unassisted tally as collected a Warrior 25 yards out and fired a rocket into the lower right side. Just over a minute later, Julio Leon evened the game as he headed in a corner kick from Franklin Lemus Pena for his first goal of the season.
Penmen keeper Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) did not make a save en route to the victory, while Merrimack goalie Jose Silva turned aside three shots. The guests held a 13-3 advantage in shots on the evening.
SNHU returns to action Saturday night with it travels to sixth-ranked Franklin Pierce University for a huge Northeast-10 showdown at 7:00 at FPU's Sodexo Field.
