THE MATCHUP: Southern New Hampshire opens its 2012-13 season with Northeast-10 conference play against Franklin Pierce Thursday afternoon.
THE PENMEN: Southern New Hampshire returns five players from its 2011-12 squad which captured its third straight Northeast-10 Championship last season...the Penmen finished the season 19-6 overall and 12-1 in conference play...the season came to an end when the Penmen lost in the second round of the NCAA to the District of Columbia 5-3...amongst the returners is defending Northeast-10 player of the Year, No.1 singles Alena Mukdaprakorn who wrapped up the 2011-12 campaign 20-6 overall and 17-5 at the No. 1 spot...Mukdaprakorn was untouched in conference play while posting a 12-0 record...Diana Vamvakitis ended her season 21-4 overall while also staying unbeaten in conference play for a perfect 12-0 record...at No.2 singles, Vamvakitis would post a 12-1 record for the Penmen...Amanda Albuquerque was also a force last season while playing at the third singles spot and recording an 8-2 record...she finished 15-8 overall and 12-1 in conference play...the Penmen have a nine match schedule ahead for the fall season while hosting three NE-10 opponents and competing in the ITA East Regionals at the end of the month.
THE RAVENS: Franklin Pierce also opens its 2012-13 season Saturday...the Ravens finished last season 3-11 overall and 3-10 in the Northeast-10...FPU will return four players while welcoming two newcomers...No. 1 singles junior Natasha McCarthy posted a 3-11 record overall along with a 3-10 record in conference play for the Ravens...she would also double up with graduate Kaitlin Krolikowski in the No. 1 double spot to record a 7-7 overall record and 7-6 in the Northeast-10...the Ravens fall schedule features eight matches, seven of which will be Northeast-10 opponents.
THE SERIES: Southern New Hampshire is 8-3 all-time against the Ravens...SNHU has swept FPU for the past three straight seasons with match scores of 9-0.
