DARTMOUTH, Mass.- Madeline
Hayes (Newington, Conn.) ran a personal-best and program
second fastest 5k time of 18:52 Saturday afternoon at the UMass
Dartmouth Invitational. Hayes helped SNHU to a 19th place finish
out of 38 teams.
With Hayes' 5k time, she tied cross country standout and
2012 graduate Emma Lundberg for the second fastest 5k time in
program history. Lundberg achieved her time in 2010 at the Pop
Crowell Invitational. Lundberg holds the top eight fastest time
spots in the record books, while sharing the eighth spot with
Hayes.
Hayes recorded her previous record time at the 2011 Northeast-10
Conference Championship when she ran a 19:25 5k time. The junior
now sits in the second position alongside Lundberg, and holds five
spots in the 5k record book.
At the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, Hayes placed
12th overall with her record time. Among other top
finishers was freshman Stacey Wojcik (Wrentham,
Mass.) who finished 39th with a 5k time of 19:24.
Kelsey Parker (Tewksbury, Mass.) also finished
221st with a 22:21 time for the Penmen.
The Penmen return to action Friday, September 21 when they
compete in the Rivier University Invitational at 4:00 p.m.
