PHILADELPHIA, P.A. – Four Southern New Hampshire women's tennis players advanced at the ITA Regionals Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. Alena Mukdaprakorn Hartford, Conn.) Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.), Amanda Albuquerque (Weymouth, Mass.), and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) all advanced to the second day of the ITA Regionals.
The duo of Jean and Albuquerque advanced to the round of eight in the Women's B doubles tournament. After moving to the second round with a bye, they defeated Iman Williams-Mulesa and Axe Owens of Chestnut Hill by a score of 8-0. The pair will face Maria Toft and Bianca Posa of Adelphi in the round of eight today.
As singles, Jean and Albuquerque also advanced in the Women's B tournament to the round of 16. Jean had a bye in the first round, but would defeat Bentley's Olga Koshera with a score of 8-2 to move to the next round. Jean will face Philadelphia University's Sayre Limburg to move ahead to the round of eight today.
Albuquerque defeated Samantha Hansen with a score of 8-0 in the first round. Albuquerque prevailed over Gaby Adia with a score of 9-8 (7-5) to advance to the round of 16. She will play Merrimack's Katie Vassey today to move on to the round of eight.
Mukdaprakorn and Vamvakitis both advanced to the round of 16 as singles in the Women's A tournament. Both had a bye in the first round. Mukdaprakorn defeated Bailey Paradiso of Stonehill College by scores of 7-6, and 6-4, while Vamvakitis defeated Goldey-Beacom's Filipa Correira 6-0 and 6-2. Mukdaprakorn will face Luisa Candid of Concordia and Vamvakitis will match up against NYIT's Madalina Florea.
The ITA Regionals continue today through Monday, September 24 when the finals will be played.
