Women's Lacrosse Pushes Past Purple Knights 16-5

MANCHESTER, N.H.Lindsay Bucknam (Bow, N.H.) scored four times as Southern New Hampshire opened up an 8-3 halftime lead en route to a 16-5 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over the University of Bridgeport Tuesday afternoon at Larkin Field.  The Penmen picked up their first victory of the season to move to 1-3, while the Purple Knights are 2-1 on the season.

Joining Bucknam with multiple goals were Phoebe Clark (Concord, N.H.) and Emily King (Florence, Mass.), who each scored three times, while Jenna Crupi (Albany, N.Y.) finished with two goals and an assist.  Alexa Allen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) notched a goal and three assists, while Ambra Maymon (Longmeadow, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist.  Kayleigh Dube (Bourne, Mass.) and Meghan Quirk (Scarborough, Maine) each had single tallies.

Five different players reached the scoring column for Bridgeport, with Gabrielle Valela and Shealyn Scully recording a goal and an assist apiece.

Southern New Hampshire never trailed, as it scored the first four goals of the game, with Quirk's score at the 17:49 mark making it 4-0.  Scully scored at 16:42 to get the Purple Knights on the board before the Penmen scored the next three goals, with Maymon's tally at the 11:17 mark making it 7-1.  UB scored the next two goals to pull within 7-3, but Bucknam converted a free position goal 1:25 before intermission to make it 8-3 at the break.

After the two teams traded goals in the first 1:50, Southern New Hampshire put the game away by scoring seven unanswered goals to build a 16-4 lead.

Maria Ploof (Middlebury, Vt.) went the distance in goal for Southern New Hampshire and made six saves, while Bridgeport counterpart Marissa Gambardella made 14 saves as the Penmen outshot the Purple Knights 38-13.  SNHU notched 15 of the game's 24 draw controls and was 15-16 on clear attempts.

Southern New Hampshire opens Northeast-10 play on Saturday when it travels to Southern Connecticut State University for a 1:00 contest.  The next Penmen home game is Saturday, March 23 at SNHU entertains Assumption College in a 4:00 contest at Larkin Field.
